What is
Arepa?

Arepa

Made of white cornmeal, water and salt, arepa is a dough formed into a patty, grilled, baked, usually split open and stuffed with a variety of ingredients.

 Yes, like a pita sandwich!

Arepas come from Latin America, the northern part of it, Venezuelans and Colombians fight for the recipe’s ownership rights.  Arepas are also eaten in Panama, Ecuador, Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, Trinidad and Tobago and the Canary Islands.

When to eat arepas, you might ask? As long you are hungry, an arepa is a good fit. They can be eaten as breakfast with quesito (cheese) and butter.  As lunch, stuffed with a variety of ingredients or as dinner… it really depends on your creativity.
